Intro to Sushi Making
Roll into the world of sushi making! Join us in the studio for an interactive, hands-on masterclass where you’ll demystify the art of Japanese sushi preparation. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a sushi lover wanting to skip the restaurant bill, this class will give you all the confidence and techniques you need to host your own sushi night at home!
Under the guidance of our chef instructor, you’ll learn the secrets behind preparing perfect sushi rice, handling sushi-grade raw fish safely, and mastering the rolling mats. You’ll practice making iconic rolls from scratch and hand-shaping delicate nigiri before sitting down to enjoy your creations alongside chilled sake!

- Sushi Rice Mastery: Learn how to cook, season, and cool short-grain sushi rice for the ultimate texture and balance.
- Knife & Fish Prep: Discover the basics of sourcing sushi-grade seafood, knife angles, and proper handling technique.
- California Roll: Master the traditional roll (Uramaki) featuring real crab/surimi, creamy avocado, and crisp cucumber wrapped in nori.
- Spicy Tuna Roll: Learn how to mix a flavorful, balanced spicy tuna filling and roll it tightly with precision.
- Raw Salmon Nigiri: Practice the delicate art of hand-shaping seasoned rice pads (Nigiri) topped with beautifully sliced, fresh raw salmon.
What To Expect: In our classes you’ll work together with other students in a fun, hands-on environment led by our professional chef instructors.
- You will work with other students in groups of 4, sharing workstations and equipment.
- Classes are 2 hours, unless otherwise noted above
- Hands-on classes are limited to 12-16 students
- You will be standing, cooking and working for most of the class
- Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes and have long hair tied back
- We will serve water, soda or 2 glasses of wine or 2 shots of saki with your meal.
Mis En Place recipes are developed using common cooking and baking ingredients that may or may not be specified in the menu titles, including various fruits and vegetables, nuts, meats, spices, wheat flours, etc. If you have a food allergy, please check with Mis En Place Cooking Studio before attending the class. Adjustments to recipes cannot be made during class.
